Sign up runs through October 31st.
Matches will be sent out by November 15th.
Packages should be mailed on the week of January 8-12th.
Please do not sign up if you think you cannot send the package out on time.
You need to contact your pal at least 3 times during the swap:
Once when pals are assigned to let them know you are there.
Once when their yarn is spun.
Once when their package is mailed.
That said, please feel free to contact them more often. We all love to hear from our pals!
This swap is open to all skill levels of spinners. Don’t be afraid to join if you just started spinning. I’ll give everyone the option when signing up if they want to be in the newbie group or the experienced spinner group.
This is a secret swap so I ask that you have an anonymous email address to use when contacting your pal.
Please don’t reveal your identity to them until January when packages are sent out.
What to send?
Enough hand spun sock yarn to knit a pair of socks.
Some other spinning or knitting type gift (roving, sock pattern or needles, more sock yarn… you get the idea)
(this is not a swap for a knit pair of socks, just the yarn to make them)
What constitutes sock yarn & how much do I need?
Sock yarn should be around 15-17 wpi (wraps per inch).
Please spin up at least a 2-ply yarn to help with durability.
A minimum of 400 yards is generally needed for a pair of average socks.
Does it have to be machine washable?
One of the questions on the questionnaire will be if you are willing to hand wash socks or not.
Superwash Merino roving is wonderful to work with & makes soft socks, but if your pal is willing to hand wash please feel free to spin up some other lovely soft fibers.
How much should I spend?
Please expect to spend a minimum of $30 US on this swap not including postage.
Once you sign up for the swap you will all get invites to post on this blog. Please take a few minutes to introduce yourself. If you haven’t a blog of your own please use this as a space to show off what you are spinning for the swap & to publicly thank your pal in January when packages are sent out.
